Stage 2 of Tri Xtreme Season 2

2 July, 2008 Jayden 13 comments

Stage 2 of HSBC Tri Xtreme Season II kicked off on Sunday, 29th June 2008! There’s 6 Challenges in total and teams are required to complete as many challenges and as quick as possible. We were busy attempting the challenge and time for photos are limited. I’ll let the pictures do the taking here.

//Listening to instructions at the Hawker Stalls @ Jerudong Park

//Jerudong Park Playground Logo

The organiser controlled the traffic by giving out ‘Block Puzzle’ to solve within 30 minutes, teams who are able to complete the puzzle earns the extra privileges to start their game early without the risk of queuing. However, after 30 minutes, all teams may start their challenges with the ‘block puzzle’ unsolved. There’s 4 teams (i think i managed to get it done within the 30 minute limit, and we were not one of them.

The organiser further controlled the traffic by smartly allocating different teams into different ‘Zone’ (challenges). Upon completing their first, required challenges, they may go to other zone (challenges) in any order they like, as long as they completed all and arrive back to the gathering point before 1pm.

Game 1 – Speed Racer

//One of the challenges at Go Kart.
This ‘Speed Racer’ game doesn’t compete on who’s the fastest driver alone. It is a test of memory. There’s 20 logos being placed on different bends of the tracks and we were required to memorise them IN ORDER. After completing a circuit, 1 member gets out and another gets in and continue driving / memorising. All answers must be handed in within 15 mins (or 10?)

What’s so hard? – IDENTIFYING the logo. I didn’t know “CALTEX” exist until my team mate tell me.

Game 2 – Eww!!

This game requires a team member of 4 and it works like a chain. It goes like this, Member 1 do something, take something to Member 2, member 2 uses it to do the task and pass to Member 3 and so on.

Task 1
– A member (Member 1) is required to dig his/her hands inside this bucket of hands to find tiny keys.

The Ew? – There’s earthworms inside! And we let Shenny to do it. Girl + Nail don’t mix with Worm + Sand much.

Task 2 – After finding all 6 keys, Member 2 must use the keys to unlock the correct box out of 6 to find a plastic bag. I attempted this.

The Ew? You gotta use your fingers to dig through piles of dead raw fish.

Another box, can someone identify what are those red coloured stuff? It’s stinks after staying under the hot sun for hours.

The Ew? – Possibly the smell and the fact that the fish is RAW.

Task 3 - Member 3 (Carmen from my team) is required to take the spoon out from the plastic bag found in the previous’s box, hold the spoon with his/her mouth and carry  these chicken liver (?) from a bowl and top up on the weighting machine (?) until its 100g.

The Ew? – “chicken liver is not disgusting, but there are flies around the liver!” said Carmen.

Task 4 – Member 4’s (HanLuen) task is not EW but rather tiring. Member 4 ought to scoop the sands from the red bucket and drop it in the blue’s. Once the blue bucket reached a certain level, Member 4 gotta run back to the starting point to complete the game.

//Hanluen likes to act cool in every photo, therefore i take this opportunity to upload his ‘uncool’ shots that i took. =D

The Ew? – Nothing Ew, maybe ’sweats’ ?

PHOTOS

I’m aint gonna post all the challenges here, it’ll be too long. From here on, pictures with captions.

Although we didn’t get pass the second round, i enjoyed all the challenges and the fun. We understand how ’second stage’ is and maybe, we’ll be able to do better in ’season 3′! We were weak on ‘block puzzle’, not so good on ‘memory’ and can’t find out the word for ‘hire purchase’ on “Triple threat” challenge. At the end of the day, We forged a greater friendship and understanding among our team. (HL is an ‘aeroplaner’, Carmen should work on her stamina and Shenny must work on her fears.) B$20 for all these fun and experience is definitely a bargain!

We went to the beach to enjoy and managed to take many nice photos! Will be uploading them in the next post.

SATA – I’m doing a Hair Show tomorrow at either Mall or Rizqun, not so sure, but the main point is that they made an “Army Haircut” for me. Guess I’ll be wearing caps more often now. What should I work more on (related to post)?  I miss my hair~ Looking forward to Sunday’s Audition in CCMS & Post Event Celebration! Time is too little.

Xtreme Pursuit; Before and After

BEFORE …

Stage 1 of the Tri-Xtreme Season 2 is held on 22nd June 2008 and Team’s Registration is at MD’s Sport’s Field. Registration starts at 8am to 8:45am, followed by announcement and actual game starts at 9:30am sharp.

//Team’s registration table

//Overview of the field

//Team Silverplay, Team 50

Without going into details, the challenge, (or Treassure Hunt, Xtreme Pursuit) took place around the whole of ‘Gadong’. The ‘rough’ perimeter of the ‘zone’ surrounds Guan Electronics, Nyonya, Justoys, Sushi Tei, Harajuki, Happy Union down to Cafe de’ Paris, Tk Restaurant back to Sin Kew Hin, Borneo Clinic, The Mall (all floors, except basement. lol) and towards Unitek and TT Blue and finally, returning to DeeJay, WYWY, Jaya Hypermart and Happy Motoring Sdn Bhd. I bet you guys can roughly visualise the areas to be covered.

It is divided into 4 ‘Zones’ namely, Zone H, Zone S, Zone B and Zone C. (HSBC). Within a time frame of 3 hours, we are required to answer all 100 quiz (estimated because I forgot the total number, help filling in?) along with 6 Bonus Challenge to be completed.

Examples of the quizes are,

//Quiz 22 to Quiz 45 of Zone “H” (The Mall).

22. i don’t like chilli
- Chill Cafe (by cancelling the ‘i’ because ‘i’ don’t like)

23. A sign of global warming
- Heatwave (Self explanatory)

27. Shout ME once done
- Bingo (Self explainatory)

33. This man is edible
- Mr. Pizza (He’s a pizza and is edible)

Looking back at these question put a smile on my face because I can still recall the feeling, the excitement and voices of friends shouting out the correct answer during the day itself. And, of course, I’m more happy when i see answers which are given by me eg.

28. the pod ran away with my shoes
- itop (ipod – pod = i, full clothing – shoes = top, hence itop)

64. Freedom with a bit of assistance
- Freego (Self explanatory)

There’s no pictures taking throughout the 3 hours of the challenge because we’re all concentrating on the answers. We only did 1 bonus challenge out of 6 and obtained 1 mark for ‘participating’ because we got the answer wrong some more. lol. We got back to the MD’s Meeting Point before 12:30pm to hand in our Answer folder. We were supplied with Mac Donald meal and mineral water for lunch. At 1:30pm, there’s a group photo shots and announcement of qualified team of 40 out of 102 for Stage 2; XTREME ADVENTURE.

After naming numerous Team Name and Team Number one by one until 40, our team name, Silverplay and Team 50 did not get its call. We were disappointed and left the field.

“I’m so dissapointed we didnt get into the top 40.”
“Not even 40% out of the 100 teams?”
“I really felt like crying but didnt la.”

//quoted from Carmen’s Blog

“sighs` the truth is still we are not in the top 40 teams. SAD SAD SAD, it’s a sad sad situation..”
//quoted from Shenny’s Blog

“So *thumbs up* to Silverplay! *Thumbs up* to our leader, Jayden who did a great job leading.. hahaha. “
//Not a disappointment quote, but it’s one of my favs, from Carmen =p

//Cool side view, Carmen =]

Best Logical Bet came true after all!
Stage 1 > Lavish Dinner

AFTER …

Some miracle happened! I’ve received a call from Alvin Tien from HSBC on 24th June 2008 that our team got in the Top 40! He said that one of the team dropped out (which I was too happy to ask about it why) and our team are actually the Top 41 out of 102! HAHAHAHA. It’s my first time to be qualified for Stage 2! (Our team didn’t get in during HSBC’s Tri Xtreme Challenge Season 1 and BSM’s Walk-a-hunt.)

Bet Logical Bet didn’t came true. Hm

Stage 1 > Stage 2 > Lavish Dinner? or
Stage 1> Stage 2 > Stage 3 > Prize Presentation + Lavish Dinner? We’ll see =]

It’s so ‘last minute’ that they didn’t change their link in this page. Don’t, don’t tell me it’s a prank?

//this is how we look before the game and after the call but definitely not after the announcement of teams qualified on the day itself. KNS’s Hanluen is trying to act cool here, not cool la bro =p

SATA – I hope this post is ‘lively’ because it has more pictures of peoples, esp my friends and I. I’ll be participating Stage 2 this Sunday, wish me and my team luck on solving the puzzles. My hair might look like bushes because I have not cut my hair since CNY (4 months) and lucky that there’s a hair show coming for free hair cut, i might blog about it. More photos next post.

5. Instruction to Stage 1 Challenge

Tri-Extreme Challenge Season II

//I like the design of the cap this year, it looks so much better and more sporty compared to the 2006’s version.

Tri-Extreme Challenge Season II

//They even have holes for ‘air free’. (I don’t know what do they call it). By the way, we are in Team 50, agreed on the name Silverplay by my team members of Shenny Tang, Carmen Chang & Han Luen.

Tri-Extreme Challenge Season II

//Introduction to Stage 1’s Card. (1 per team)

Photos of Season I is available in Facebook group – HSBC Tri Xtreme Challenge Season II

Personally, I think HSBC spends a lot on this event, we are paying $20 ($10 for HSBC customer) and the benefits from the goodie bag itself is definitely worth more than $20 or $10. Even if the goodie bag doesn’t worth so much, try to view the event in the organiser’s perspective, there’ll be a lot of LARGE posters and banners to print for the event day itself, the cost of organising the games plus the printing of ‘folders’ with game/challenges instructions. The pre-event’s numerous printing of thousands of catalogs for awareness.

Let’s do a simple math.
B$60 per team (2 HSBC for $10, 2 Non-HSBC for $20)
$60 x 100 total team = B$6000

That’s B$6000 for the total ‘revenue’ they take earn from us.

And they are giving out money prizes as much as
No.1 = 8000
No.2 = 4000
No.3 = 2000
Total = 14k !

14k minus 6k = 8k to be spent from the bank’s pocket capital. This is purely a calculation on ‘Money in from us & Money out from them’ without adding all those advertisement and printing cost!

More benefits without ‘advertisements’
I have not include the free Ipod Touch/Ipod Nano8GB/Ipod Nano 4GB with sums up roughly $5200 for the winners! Wait, each of us will be receiving our very own Participation Certificate at the end of the day as well (printing cost?). In all of the rounds, participants will be receiving free supply of foods from local fast food restaurants (Ayamku, Ideals etc in 2006’s event) and these are added up to theirs costings as well.

Tri-Extreme Challenge Season II

//The celebration for the post-event 2006 were luxurious!! (more costing =p)

In 2006’s event, buffet of different foods (western, eastern) are placed in a long stretched table displaying mouth-watering appetizers, food, meals and deserts along the man-made beach in Marine Centre @ The Empire Hotel. There were unlimited sushis and the quality of the food are definitely of high standards. We could ask for lambs, beefs and fishes as much as our stomach can take it. This year, the post-event celebration will be held at the same place as well. (these are costs to HSBC as well)

We got Goodie Bag, proof of Cert, Luxury Food, Exciting Game! Without further calculation, we all understands that the benefits from just joining the event worthed more than $20 (or $10).

But WHY? Why are they spending so much in giving prizes and benefits to us? What do they gain?

1. Brand Building? Make the word HSBC looks more class + powerful yet friendly?
2. Encouraging more users to sign up accounts with HSBC?
3. For the fun? HSBC, more than a bank?

4. Someone like YC will question and blog about it? Free advertisement? If that’s one of their aim, they had achieved it =P

What do you think? Well, whatever the reason is, the challenge is on this Sunday, 22nd June 2008 and I’m excited. :)

Best Dream Bet = Stage 1 > Stage 2 > Stage 3 > Prize + Lavish Dinner
Best Logical Bet = Stage 1 > Lavish Dinner > Secretly ‘Tapao’ ? (I’m kidding)

SATA (Something about the author) – My laptop’s modem broke down and there’s no espeed/broadband/nearby wireless for me to use. =[ I can only surf and blog in cafes for the time being. Work remains to same but it’s already been a long time since I’ve gone up to Ulu Ulu Resort. I miss that place and heard that the place has been improved further. There’s gonna be a pool table some more! UBD has not been calling me and I’m nervous. I don’t really like the “media function” in WP which whenever I need to upload a picture, i need to press “add media button > media library > show > insert into post > repeat add media button”. I’m want a Canon dSLR~
