//On Air
RTB’s 2nd Xing Xiu Wen Lai Mandarin Singing Competition round 1 is held yesterday on 8th June 2008 at RTB Studio, Brunei Darussalam. It starts as early as 1pm where contestants need to arrive early to take attendance and be briefed on the procedure.
Although it is a “Competition”, the format of it isn’t like “Xin Guang Da Dao” or “Jue Dui Superstar” in other countries where contestants stands in the stage, sing and get judged. Compliments and Critiques are given directly on the spot. Format this year in RTB is of no stage and every contestant’s recording will be done in a small studio. Judges will be judging their song at a later date by hearing from the voice recorded. The quality of the song matters most and other miscellaneous factor such as ‘clothing’ and ‘on stage performance’ is not taken into account in Round 1. If i’m not wrong, Carmen Tao will be one of the judges as well as other certified judges.

//The recording studio looked like this.
2nd RTB’s singing competition doesn’t not allow contestants to sing with a hand held mic but with a “hanging mic” instead.
Contestant X : “I’m not so used to sing like this.”
Crew Y : “Hold the overhanging mic with your hand and sing lo.”
Here’s the procedure, pick your number out of random and ones with Number 1 will be the first to sing, followed by 2, 3, 4… until the last. The one singing are allowed around 1 minute of testing their voice, volume, key and distance of them from the mic. Once the one minute is over, real recording will start and the ‘On Air’ will be light up. When it is “On Air”, no one is allowed to enter or leave the Studio A until the recording finishes to prevent recording unnecessary sound. Once the contestant finishes his song, his karaoke disc will be given back to him and the next contestant repeats the process, 1 minute of testing etc …

//Contetants singing with the overhanging mic in front of her
To be frank, i was awaken by my sister yesterday because she woke up earlier than me to practise her singing =P She said that its stated in the press that no audience is allowed. I confirmed with several friends and they said the same too. We, the supporters choose to hang out at CheeseBox as alternative outing until my sister and carmen messaged
“yo man.. u guys not coming to support?” – Carmen
“Ui.. Haha. If u wana come. Can come. Bring ic only. Shenny they al here =p” – My sis
After receiving it, all of us rush with haste to RTB Studio in Bandar. Although it is not open for all audience, a small amount is allowed, like..

//majority are contestants and some supporters.

//Contestants too, Jon Tee with his “I LOVEEEE YOU” (ai hen jian dan by David Tao). p/s = got ppl keep singing your song to remind you of the day? hehe
This is very different from last year’s 1st RTB Singing Competition where all the contestants are performing on stage in a hall that can accommodate roughly 300-500 people (estimated, someone confirm it please?). Your performance is open to all and your capability in singing is judged directly by hundreds of people, friends or family with free entrance as audience. This year, your audience will be around 10 to 15 people at most only so this helps for those who are afraid of performance with crowds.
On the day itself, i didn’t take the effort to memorise the names of the singer and their songs of the ones I like or the ones which are nice. From my vague memory, i remembered that there’s a girl who sing ’sa gua’ nicely, the singer of ‘cha jian er guo’ sang it nicely too. Someone sang ‘bu neng shuo de mi mi’ by Jay. The last contestant sang his song like Jacky Cheung. The tutor from Micronet sang his song nicely! The guy who sang “Bu Dong” from MD have a unique voice.

Anyway, this ends my post.
Something about the Author – There’s nothing funny happening in the studio except I found out that “L.Sing” is older than me, according to “Brain Age Check” in her Nintendo DS Lite. However, even though I appear younger than her in the game, the calculated age is much older than what I am now. LoL. Angelina is having the same age as me in “Brain Age Check”. Friends and Family like HuaLik and gang, LanSing, Carmen, Shenny, Winnie, Jasmine, Angelina, Jon Tee, LinXuan are joining this time. Good Luck to all of them. (did I miss anyone? let me know)
Do participate in many events when opportunity arises, especially when you are young. At least we’re able to tell stories of the moment experienced when we grow up. HSBC’s Tri Extreme II here i come.
They have commented; have you?
