RTB Chinese Singing Competition 2008 FINAL

14 August, 2008 Jayden 13 comments

Once again, I am here to write a short post on the final round of Brunei Xing Xiu Singing Competition 2008.

The show starts at 2:30pm sharp with dancing performance by LeSwan with their samba move. I think it is the same 4 guys from Round 2.

Later on, next is a group performance of the top 8 finalist singing “只对你有感觉 (Zhi Dui Ni You Gan Jue) of Fahrenheit’s. 仁豪” (Jen Hao) did the opening following by “周添玲” (Tian Ling).

吴鸣Wu Ming and “萍梵”(Ping Fan) came to stage to have an opening speech and a simple introduction of the top 8 finalist after their wonderful performance. there are 刘玉忆, 温仁豪, 沈秀群, 周添玲, 唐福明, 孔雪研, 邱净凯 and 沈家豪.

The Final Round of the Competition seperates into 3 parts.
Part 1: Main Song (60%)
Part 2: A duet (20%)
Part 3: Tempo and rhyme test. (20%)

Let’s not forget the judges for the Final Round, they are, 罗燕仙,Summer Ho, 顾小军,黄至平 (No pic). The guest judges for this round is Winnie Ho, 何芸妮. According to the booklet, she is the champion of Astro Talent Quest, Malaysia in 2000, the 2nd runner up of 2000 Worldwide Chinese Singing Competition. She is also appointed as an instructor for Astro Talent Quest after winning.

刘玉忆, is the first to sing, performing 恋人啊.

Secondly, it is 温仁豪’s turn to present what he had prepared, singing 男人KTV

沈秀群’s turn is Number 3 with her “爱上一个不回家的人”.

Our UBD mate, 周添玲is Number 4 showcasing 蓝天.

唐福明is on the fifth’s spot, singing “Waiting For You”.

问自己is the song to Number 6, and it is sang by 孔雪研.

邱净凯falls in 2nd singer from last, presenting 听我爱你 in his own voice.

Finally, Our Number 8 is沈家豪with his终于(finally).

As seen from the picture, Part 1 of this competition’s Top 3 is沈秀群, 孔雪研 and温仁豪! No.1 being 温仁豪 with the highest calculated score.

Part 2 of the competition is Duet singing. Partners are chosen randomly by the management and they are required to do their best because this duet weighted 20% of the total mark.

The first song is “你是我心中的一首歌” by Lee Hom and Selina. It is sang by 沈秀群and沈家豪.

Next is “今天你要嫁给我 by 温仁豪and刘玉忆instead of David Tao and Jolin.

周添玲and唐福明sang the third song, “是你决定我的伤心”.

唐福明and 周添玲sang “你最珍贵”.

Duet’s score is added up with the previous’s solo performance. Now let’s see who is the Top 3 with scores from Part 1 and Part 2 accumulated.

The Top 3 are 沈秀群, 孔雪研 and温仁豪!

To add more shows, RTB and E-huawang invited the 1st runner up from last year onto the stage to perform.

Part 3 of the competition is the “Tempo and rhyme test”. It works like this: A song is picked randomly for the contestants and he/she is required to familiarise themselve with the song. Just like ASTRO Xing Xiu’s competition, the music of the songs that are sang halfway by the contestants will be stopped abruptly but contestants ought to continue singing. The music will set in again by surprise to catch the contestant off guard if they are not singing to the song’s tempo and rhyme. Most of the songs in this category are quite a lively one.

Another ending performance bought by LeSwan Studio.

The next 2 performance is bought by何芸妮(Winnie Ho). She has a beautiful voice!

Now, for the most exciting moment of the day, Top 4 were presented with trophies and cash as a reward in making all the way up to Top 8.

No.8 goes to 沈家豪,

No. 7 goes to 邱净凯

No.6 goes to唐福明

and No.5 goes to周添玲

Position No. 4 is grabbed by刘玉忆!

温仁豪make it to position 3!

To cut long story short, The runner up is 沈秀群!

and of course, this means that the Champion for this year’s Brunei Xing Xiu Singing Competition is 孔雪研! Congratulations!

My job is done here. Hope you all enjoy reading / or is informative enough. Congratulation to the 8th of them, it’s nice seeing everyone one of them performing and singing. I missed the ‘talent performance’ like last year’s. For more photos, please head on to FOTOMAS studio in Gadong to print them. (I don’t think softcopy is obtainable but you can try though).

SATA: Sorry for the late update, things are quite busy on my hands here. (AND i didn’t allocate T.I.M.E in posting this up too.) Do drop by for more Xing Xiu photos. I’ll post some personal pictures / behind the scene pictures in the next post. Till here. Ja matane! (I am taking japanese language as my language course in UBD). =]

Skimming through UBD’s subject book

16 May, 2008 Jayden 3 comments

I wandered around a local bookstore for 3 hours today due to miscommunication with my boss. Initially, I thought that I have to wait for him throughout the duration of his meeting. In the end, he left the venue without informing me, he thought I got his ‘message’ that I do not need to wait below/around. Anyway, during the 3 hours having absolutely nothing interesting to do in Serusop/Delima’s chain of store except this bookstore. Bookstore is one of my favourite store at any place, locally or foreign.

//These are the will-be-buying’s book if I am offered with a seat in UBD, hopefully. They arranged all UBD required material in partitions so customers can allocate them quite easy.

Out of nowhere, this lighting effect caught my attention to draw this book out of the crowds, ‘Digital Signal Processing’ sounds ‘technology’ enough to me to flip and explore

//It’s all about these! I guess I have no luck with either numbers or formulas. I don’t think I’ll take effort to learn it because I’ve kinda disconnected from Maths. In other words, ‘ah lelelele’ (similiar meaning to a ‘extreme sigh’) My reason of not taking Maths is because I thought that we, upon entering working society in the near future, would not sit down with a couple of buddy and discuss about any Maths related formula.

I was thinking, no one would say: “Hey! We calculated that you are wrong because with that, the ‘insert-some-complicated-maths-formula-here’ would be ‘insert-answer-here’, which proves you that the “insert-another-equation-here” yada yada …”

Of course, I’m a bit regretted because Maths is very important.

Giving up in Physic (or any Science related book), I continued to search for more book of interest.

//Computing sounds good and appealing to me

I always wonder what is Computer Science all about? This is my opportunity to check out what quantitative, java, c++ really are. This book, is as seen, Data Structures and Algorithms in Java. Sounds cool?

//Guess not, I’m not suited a computer person afterall with all these “they-know-me-but-i-don’t-know-them” codings.. maybe, maybe i can learn.

//Moving on to DVD Studio 2 (Not sure if this is used in UBD), such book can sure hook me up from Page 1. (maybe because that there’s not much numbers?)

//Something about programming, our very own MMS system in our mobile. I thought I can learn few hidden feature in mms or something, mana tau…

//Siao, from now on, I think I’ll just forget Computing and just make use of the program (mms, multimedia software) to produce something useful (an mms, artwork, video) rather than understanding and how to create the software itself. Would I ever get to understand or study these “ah lelelele” codings?

//Reading these will boil my blood, not that it make me angry but excited. It’s all about Graphics, Sharpening, Levels and tiny details on an image. (am I moving along the graphic line in my life? hm). Stimulated by this book, I went on to search for another graphic material.

//A graphic related book, which I thought I would be interested.

//Turning inside, “ah lelelelele”. Graphic also have programming.

Apa
ReleaseCapture ();
ClipCursor (NULL);
Apa Apa Apa Apa Apa

Maybe, if I’ve learn it from the beginning, I wouldn’t be discouraged by these aliens.

To maybe-to-be-ubd-mates, have a quick browse on your choosen subject, there’s still time to change if you don’t like what you selected. I opted for Business Administration, so far ’so so’ on their marketing, management or consumer behavior. Walk one step, count one step because I’ve a critical issue on priority first, exam!

Something about the author – All these pictures are taken with k810. G9 GG. Let’s see, 2 cup of coffee kept me awake from Morning 9am to 4:40am now. I worked from 9am to 12:30am today.. Luckily there’s no work tmw (later). Off to watch Hei Se Hui Mei Mei.

Next Post : I am workaholic?

Car Plate Letter & Applause

11 April, 2008 Jayden 15 comments

>> Car Plate Letter

I always think about my future car plate number, still in the process of finding my ideal’s. There’s once I got weary of looking/thinking at numbers, I tried to look at the “Alphabets” in front. In Brunei, it’s usual everyone goes for 4 numbers, less numbers means dearer, and the one with no number is of course, His Majesty. The one with no numbers but English alphabet written in script/cursive is the royal families (prince and princess).

For example, a normal car plate is like “BH 8888” or “BM 8888”. There are also “KH 8888” or “KM 8888”. “BG” is exclusively reserved for Brunei’s Government.

My pursue in finding an ideal car plate number continues, starting with “BS”, “BS” sounds nice, however, the word ‘BullShit’ floats in my brain all of a sudden. “Omg, not good”.

I took the effort to drive around and saw many nice potential LETTER. However, many more bad words came about. BJ cannot, it’s the abbreviation of “BlowJ”. BH came into sight, hmmm… it doesn’t mean anything bad in English.

I tried to broaden my imagination over the “Chinese Sdn Bhd” in my brain. Within the Chinese Sdn Bhd, the “Hokkien” department shouted “BH = Bo Hoot”. HAHAHA. I continued to explore more. I started to look around and saw “KM”. I liked KM but I remembered that my sis used to say “KiMa” in her blog. Hm, another bad word. KM = KiMa.

Here’s more

“BL” – this works in the “Hokkien” department as well, meaning “Bo LanJia*” HAHA.

“BP” – Initially, the worst that I could thought of is “Bang Pui” (fang pi, fart). But, today, it struck my mind that “BP” is actually the cousin of “BL” as in “BP” = “Bo Pep**” Oh my god.

“KN” - don’t have I guess, maybe KanNini@”?
“BM” – Big Mouth? At least not a bad word
“BS” – can also be ‘Beh Song’, also from Hokkien department.
“BY” – Bo Yong

Well, I can’t manage to come out with every bad thing for every car plate number. Share? And owning one of the bad letter doesn’t mean anything, it’s all my imagination. It can be good like”BS” = “best strategy”, ”busy studying”, or maybe just ‘borang scholarship’. HAHA. If you asked me what letter I like, I’m picking “KM”, it looked nice.

Had enough of these? Ok, I’ll give one more. Ever thought of “KL” ?

Digging into my “Hokkien” department, they submit me with the word “KamLan”. HAHA. “BN”? guess.

“Bo Nao”.

(mini disclaimer : this is just a personal thoughts, I’m not referring to anyone regarding the car plate letter. If you hold one of those car plate, it doesn’t mean you are ‘the above mentioned’, its all in my head only)

Something funny happened when I was doing graphics constantly, editing and adjusting. I took a short break viewing website and when I wanted to press ‘back’ to show the previous’s page, I press “Control + Z” (Undo in Photoshop) instead. How blur I am. HAHA

>> Applause

Something funnier happened when I allow my brain to think more unnecessary things. I was thinking of the talents of people. If somebody is good in sport like basketball, they can participate in tournament and show off their skills, everyone will be impressed and give them claps right? Like this

The same goes to dancing, breakdancing, singing and even cycling. (below)

I was thinking, if I venture more into photography, when would I have the opportunity to get claps from audience ah? I don’t think there is much chance. It’ll be weird if I show someone my photograph and he just clap to give respone right.

So when is the time for photographers to get applause? Set up a mini hall and insert slideshows of their professional pictures and get appreciated? Like this,?

//Maybe not. (or maybe there’s such thing..)

Or clap only the moment when the photographer equips his camera with a different lens.

//”click” —-> “applause” from crowd. HAHAHA

//There, a shot which i love personally. Please applause now in front of the monitor, like this

Thank you. =p

-end of my wild imagination + expecting healthy incoming comments. =p

I made my first Korean friend

7 April, 2008 Jayden 5 comments

Early in the morning, I put breakfast at your table, mei yi . the operator assigned me to do a tour and gave me the guest’s name “Rhim JiMin, 2 pax”, I thought these people were Pilipino or Indonesians or from Dubai or something. I am required to pick them up at The Empire Hotel. So I drove to the hotel and wander about in the main lobby to look for these 2 foreign guests. I saw Koreans walking back and forth, boarding buses for tours and I stay focused searching for JiMin.

After wasting 7 or so minutes searching in vain, I saw 2 young Korean standing up, seeking for help at the tour counter. I went over and tried to understand the situation. It was then I know these 2 Koreans actually are the guest itself. (If you read the newspaper, you’ll know that Empire Hotel are flooded with Koreans. So) I was targeting all kind of races except Koreans because all these Koreans have their own events, tours planned nicely already by the MetLife. Coincidently, there are also Koreans who come by themselves which I least expected.

After introducing and fetch them inside the van.
Me: “So you guys want me to speak in English or Korea?”
Them: “you can guide in Korean?”
Me: “Nah, just kidding”

There was no chicken and duck communication going on (aka communication barrier) because they can speak the international language, English nicely! Throughout the tour, I speak English and they replied in English too.

The paiseh thing is that..
Me: “Brunei was under British protection in the past…”
Them: “So it was a colony”
Me: “colony? Err yea, a colony”

Now you can almost catch the standard of their English. After visiting the sights of Brunei (in that particular package), we become closer and I sent them back to their hotel. On Sunday, we came out again, not on any tour but just doing shopping the whole day. To curtail things, we went Mall, Yayasan, Mosque, (KP joined in here, asking for transport home) Night Market & Coffee Zone before heading to airport. The kind of shop in Brunei which is intriguing them is the “Kedai Runcit” (Convenience Store) in Brunei, Winmark & Shabby Chic. They said that TheFACEshop here is more expensive than Korea’s. They love the food at Night Market esp Roti John, Satay, Chicken butt and Popia. They said that Brunei’s airport is HUGE (sarcastically). They like Brunei because it’s clean and peaceful. And so on.

(it’s getting late, simply summing it up)

I guess I’ll end this post with pictures.

//a quite decent shot of them with sis’s camera. G9 returned to the owner already =x

//blackblack whitewhite. The only group picture of us. Take care Korea friends, or should I say Yuna (white) and JiMin (black). Not only that they speak fluent English, they can speak little Chinese too. -_-“ as well as is a Swimmer and cheer leader (I didn’t ask too much on their personal life) and. They are studying “Industrial Design” in Korea. All the best to them.

Remark: This is quite a personal one, is it enjoyable to read? (cause it’s a bit too personal and scared that you guys might get bored, and I don’t normally blog too personal things here) hope its entertaining. HAHA. Next Post : Some random thoughts of mine!
