Ulu Temburong National Park Day 2
Day 2
Early morning, I was awakened by another guide, Del at 4:30am because we were told to go for the canopy walk before the sunrise. I prepared myself and got down to the Club Lounge. On the way there, the information centre looks pretty in the morning.
// Morning view with lights on. (blurred, hais)
The plan of going up the canopy before sunrise failed because not everyone gather at the club lounge early and even if they arrive early, they had to do their morning prayer. So ya. In the end, we start our walk to canopy at 6:00am++
// dragging on like this taking photos here and there, sun is already rising..
//Just a view which I like.
(Oh yea, this post will have more photos, less text)
// IF the steps to the canopy is not covered with these metal (or alluminium), the stair will be very slippery, especially when it just rained like the picture above. HOWEVER, even with this piece of metal here, it is still slippery. Be careful for whoever is going there.
//The Overhanging Bridge that we ought to pass through before continuing the 1226 steps up to the Canopy Tower. I don’t know why but we are told to go in groups of 5. The next group can only move when the previous group is reaching the end. It’s around 120 meters long.
// Views of the forest from the middle of the bridge. Nice?
From now onwards, it’s all walkways with rainforest trees on the sides. I took a lot of pictures here but of course, I’m not gonna post them out else you’ll just be scrolling your mouse to avoid all the pictures of the trees (pressing down/right in mobiles).
The air in the National Park is indeed very very fresh, just imaging you’re actually at the lungs of the world, giving out enormous amount of fresh oxygen and you’re the first privileged oxygen taker.. Siok. Haha. Insect repellant is not needed because mosquito can barely survive the temperature up in the National Park. Mobile signal is not available but everyone is carrying their handphone in your pocket/backpack because there’s reception on the top of the canopy. The atmosphere is very cool and we don’t sweat much/at all. After stepping 1226 stairs, we reached the foot of the Canopy Tower.
//foot of the tower
//YESH! There’s reception already using DST. B.mobile cannot receive anything.
//To reach the top, we have to climb these tower with stairs rotating upwards. I was scared, not knowing how safe these towers are. “what if I fall?”, “what if one of the level felt”. =X As I climb upwards, I dare not taking out the camera to take pictures until I reach the very top. After confirming the safety, I don’t climb with tensed muscle anymore.
//THE TOP. This is the view and sensation everyone is coming here for. Although “Picture tells a thousand words”, but this picture tells little. You gotta be there to feel and create your own thousand words. It is superb.
//There’s 5 towers all together actually, one being higher than the other. This view is taken from the first tower to the 2nd tower.
//These 2 views from the highest tower of all. I heard its even nicer to come up here and watch the sun rises. By the time we got up there, sun is already at your 45 degree angle already.
//Lucky the tower isn’t shaky from the top. The memory space from the camera is running out. I use my k810 to take additional pictures too. Memory storage was so critical to the extent that I have to reduce my quality image of k810 from 3.2 MP to 2 MP. =x
//view of the highest tower from the foot of it. After enjoying the fantastic view, we return to the resort using the same pathway, 1226 steps down.
//If anyone is going for trips like this, such handy bag is very preferable for camera, wallet, mobiles and etc.
(too much things to blog about, I’ll be slimming my text down again)
After coming down from the canopy walk, we had our breakfast at the Valley Cafe. The meal was GOOD because we didn’t get eat anything in the morning (before the walk). Temperature is changing from cool to warm at 11pm. We settled all our sweats by swimming, washing in the stream.
//depositional features, pebbles and sediments. The stream water is clear and clean.
//Okay, not clean anymore. Kidding =p Some foreign tourist do drink a sip or two from here.
Suddenly one of them caught my attention, sitting on the rock as though he is meditating.
//Nice shot ey? I requested and did the same. below
//The Chinese style, apparently Im looking at the screen. (not being faithful). HAHAHA. It’ll be better if the angle shift up a bit, more sky less rock. DEN..
//HAHAHAHAH, faithful enough? Xp
After this, they gathered to have a team building game held at the “Two River Terrace”. On the way there, I saw HIM..
//I’m sure those who studied in SGS before recognise him. He is Mr. Gerald Sim…
…Mr. Gerald Sim’s brother actually. They have the same face, skin colour, smiles and eye. They also share the same hairstyle. So lookalike. Haha.
//He is actually a lawyer in Brunei. This is a group of lawyers in Brunei. The middle, most front man is an attorney general from AGC, Brunei. This is their FAM trip.
Next event is a team building game. A group of 3 are given limited materials of marker pen+few piece of paper, newspaper, straws, cello-tape and an egg. They need to use those materials and construct something which can protect the egg from breaking if thrown 3m in height. The egg can’t be covered for more than 50% in the mini construction and they have a time limit of 15minutes.
//in-the-making of 3 different groups.
//This group came out with this parachute design. The team leaders are required to introduce their product. All of the leaders exaggerate and ‘cow-and-bull’ everything. What ISO certified, blue prints, designed by professor from America, all also have. LOL. They mentioned that the parachute is to reduce the speed while the ‘ground stand’ is to receive the impact of the egg. (however, I think this is not a good idea unless everything worked as expected eg the parachute really works. The egg will of course be heaviest and may fall first, dragging the parachute and the base stand) In the end, unsuccessful.
//This group’s project is called ‘S’uper Semaun. The idea is to just drop it and the newspaper will do the job of withstanding the impact while the cone shaped straw will prevent the egg from dropping upon impact. Again, their leader said that this project has a local flavor because the cone shaped straw looked like the traditional kit for catching fish, ‘bubur’. Inside the bubur have the “S” shaped straw surrounding the cone. Hence “S”upper Semaun. Semaun is the famous Krisman (swordman with kris) in the traditional days. They use techy words like “capsule talor”, professor from UBD collaborating with US scientist etc etc. One being more hilarious than the other. (this guy is the same guy who mentioned ““eh, how do we go to the canopy walk tomorrow? Rosak kan?” in the previous post). In the end. This project worked.
//This project is almost the same as the previous one but without the bubur system. This worked beautifully. I can’t quite remember the details about this one but the leader said that this can withstand the most most powerful earthquake in the world. Certified product with the base called ‘shock absorber’ to absorber all impact. Omg. HAHAHA.
//After the game, all members return to their specific groups to have a meeting. The senior staff (I think) are briefing them about teamwork. Reminding the importance of teamwork and contribution from each and every one of them are important. Everyone have their own expertise and ought to make the full use of their skill. Like just now….. (bla bla). So I hope everyone (blabla). This teambuilding workshop is to hope everyone realize the importance of team working in a company, especially when one sector is connected to the other sector or department. (blabla). I didn’t stand beside them to hear throughout because I think it is not for me. (paiseh also). The speaker also asked each and every one of them to give them an opinion about the company, what can they do to improve, the teething problems, this and that.
Overall, I think this is fun and rewarding to the company and to the individual themselves. Buffet lunch is served and right after that, they will be either kayaking or rafting back to Batang Duri.
//This is the place where you can receive signal other than high up at the canopy area. It is located at the hilltop villa. However, only the Nokia model only. Not a chance for Sony Ericsson. One can enjoy pilihan radio tho. (@shenna – here right?)
//Kayak lessons by the OBBD staff. Unfortunately I cannot join them because I am not registered with OBBD.
//We use temuai (long boat) down the stream back to Batang Duri. Halfway through, it rained HEAVILY. So heavy that you can’t see the road even with the level 3 car wiper (in Brunei). The picture taken above is only starting to rain, I didn’t take one with the heavy rain though. RAINforest. =x
(cutting down) Back to Batang Duri -> Bangar -> Bandar -> back home. (I still miss the atmosphere there, so soothing and fresh)
The reason why for the memory space shortage is that I took a lot vain photo also. =P btw, thanks to my sis, Winnie for borrowing me her digital camera.
